Baby Blue Jays

Blue Jay
Baby Blue Jay

We were out on a walk this morning when we encountered two baby blue jays under the watchful eye of a mother blue jay. Here are a few pictures. They hopped around a little and even flew (or wing-assisted jumped) from branch to branch on a small tree. The pictures are high resolution, so if you click on them, you'll see larger than life-sized details.

How quickly they grow up. Just last month, the goslings were yellow fluff balls. Now the juvenile Canada Goose is starting to look more like the adult.

Grackle feeding its offspring

This is our first baby sighting of the year. We always think it's amusing that baby birds seem to be the same size as their parents but are still demanding to be fed. These two entertained Chris for a while this AM.

Goslings

Goslings

We thought that the Canada goose and gander mated for life and were ideal parents. However, this group of three adults with fourteen goslings has been showing up for about a week.

Mallard and Ducklings

We promise to stop posting pictures of Mallard ducklings soon. However, these were too cute. They've been coming out a dusk and tonight was the first dry day in a while.

Some geese brought their goslings into our yard today. They left by way of the dock. We've also spotted some ducklings, but none have been very close. We do try to use the dock ourselves. Fortunately, the Canada Geese prefer Molsons to Corona. "Whitey" has been crashing our parties a bit.
