Man-of-War aka Frigate

 

 

 

 

The Frigates are a common bird in the Caribbean. We saw some from the resort, but many more roosting on utlity wires that cross the Errol Flynn Marina in Port Antonio. It is known locally as the man-of-war. The male has a pouch on the neck that can be inflated. We think the one with the white head in a juvenile.

The White-cheeked Pintail is also known as the Bahama Pintail.

Brown Pelican
The laughing gull would sometime race to where a pelican had caught a fish and try to steal it. Sometimes, it would sit on the back of the pelican.

While Lake Nelson has it charms, sometimes people and birds require warmer climates and turquoise waters. We spent a week in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on two islands (Petit St. Vincent and Palm Island). Here are some the birds we encountered.

This duck was in a lagoon in the middle of Palm Island, SVG. It took some time searching on the internet, but we eventually identified it as a blue-winged teal on vacation in Palm Island, SVG. We prefered the caribbean waters, but they liked the lagoon.
