Watch it. You're crowding me!

Double-crested Cormorants

The cormorants were out early this morning, but Mike already had two cups of coffee. All are enjoying the last weekend of the summer.

Cormorant Island

This weekend we "decorated" a float with a tree limb that had fallen and some smaller braches for aesthics in hopes of creating a new spot for birds. Our attempts at such social engineering rarely work out, but the cormorants (and a lone duck, perhaps orphaned, that we call Annie or Ani if it turns out to be a male) seemed to appreciate the effort.

Black and White Warbler having a bath

Black and White Warbler

Here is our little friend, the black and white warbler, back to visit us after a year away. We have a water dripper going into a bath for the birds who don't come to the feeders, but this warbler took advantage of the puddle that forms on the ground under it instead of using the dish. It then went up into the tree to dry off and get some privacy from our prying eyes. We were very glad to have this visitor as things have been slow in the yard this late summer. As much as we hate the thought of winter, we are looking forward to fall migration and spotting some other less common friends.
